Plastibell Circumcision: The Troubles

By Christopher Collins

After a plastibell circumcision is performed, a small plastic rim is placed on the glans penis to help it recovers. Take care not to tug on the plastibell, as this could result in bleeding and soreness. Be sure to wash it with warm water only, and avoid roughing your newborn baby. The first day of the baby’s life it is recommended that all skin on the penis glans is covered with a gauze dressing which you must remove at every change of diaper.

After the circumcision of the plastibell is completed, a ring of plastic is put around the head to ensure that the baby can’t scratch or move the region. After three days, this rubber ring is removed. Your pediatrician will explain to you which ring to remove.

Parents worry about how the infant plastibells can affect their sons. Plastibells are used in regular pharyngological procedures for a long time. While some parents are concerned however, the majority of doctors have concluded that anesthesia used for the procedure is safe for both boys and girls. There are occasions when boys will bleed after the procedure. The majority of bleeding occurs in the initial 24 hours and is usually seen as soon as the stitches are removed. If you have any questions regarding this procedure, your doctor or surgeon is able answer your questions.

In some cases, complications might be encountered during the procedure, but it is rare. The procedure can result in tears in the skin or create an opening if the plastic device is not installed correctly. However, these rare complications are possible and could require repair or replacement of the plastibell as well as the stitches. Any discomfort or bleeding associated due to these conditions usually fades in a matter of hours.

Plastibell is not likely to cause complications in most cases. Plastibell will not cause any problems. Penile irritations and skin reactions can occur. These irritations can result in an itchy, rash or ingrown hairs. A few clinically-significant side effects, such as itching or minor bleeding, rarely occur when using the plastic device. It is important to consult your doctor if you notice such symptoms.

Other complications can occur other complications, including infection, allergic reactions or necrosis. This happens very rarely when using the latest techniques, but it’s possible that issues can occur when using older methods. If the male who was born performed his circumcision using a band, this is more likely. A ring may trap moistureand lead to the growth of bacteria. It could also increase chances of developing the problem.

Another potential problem with Plastibell involves the fainting of the infant during and after surgery. The child that has been admitted to the hospital as a result of a circumcision that doesn’t heal properly can fainting during the emergency room stay. It can pose a serious situation for infants, especially if they are not stable in their own. These complications are rare, but. The odds are much higher to witness the baby experience shock or be killed by an infection or another complication during the emergency period following the operation.

If you’ve opted to get the Plastibell procedure, then you’ll be required to carefully select a surgeon who is skilled and experienced to do the procedure on your newborn son or daughter. Choose a board-certified and fully trained plastic surgeon. The medical school of the doctor (if there is one) is important as well as the experience of pediatric surgery, craniofacial, cardiovascular disease, adult diseases or pediatricians. A prospective pediatrician must be capable of providing you with details about his or her experiences with children of all ages, and the number of children currently in the process of being treated.
